“Thank you for listening Eva,” said Annie as she sat on the couch and shared her feelings.

“There is nothing like a listening ear to unburden the heart.”

”That’s ok,” said Eva.” I have two very big ears!”

”True, and that means you are able to hear, but not necessarily listen,”

”What’s the difference, Annie?” asked Eva.

”Well, hearing is what happens because we have working ears. Listening is what happens because we have developed the skill, which we get better at when we practice,” explained Annie.

”Oh, and I just noticed that the word ‘hear’ has the word ‘ear’ in it,” said Eva, who was proud of herself for spotting it.

”Yes, and perhaps the ‘h’ adds a bit of heart. Because true listening needs the heart as well as our ears. Our heart will always hear was is said beyond words.” explained Annie.

”Wow!” Eva was impressed.
