“It’s winter solstice, Eva,” said Annie with some relief.

“What does that mean?” asked Eva.

”It is the shortest day of the year and that means that from now on, for the next 6 months,  the days will be getting longer again,” explained Annie. “It is a sign of hope and a reminder that darkness will end and light will return.”

”Oh good, that means longer walks too!” Eva always knew how to bring the spiritual back to the practical.
